-Initially in the first week after birth they can have anywhere between 2-5 nappies a day depending on how they are being fed.
-After 1 week of age there should be between 8-12 wet and dirty nappies a day.
-The colour of baby poos, how firm or runny it is, and how often a baby passes poo can all vary a lot and usually it is 'normal'.
- The first bowel action after birth which is a dark green/black colour is meconium. Quite sticky in consistency.
- The poo then changes over the next few days to a lighter colour (mustard) as the baby adapts to his diet of breast milk or formula.
- Breastfed baby's have soft, unformed poos that may look a bit like seedy mustard, often a yellow-orange colour, but sometimes greenish.
- Bottle-fed baby's tend to have firmer poos and pass them less often in the first few weeks.
