- On average a baby should be gaining between 100g - 200g per week.
- Within the first year they will have gained more than triple their birth weight.
- By their second year the weight gain slows down to an average of 2-3kg each year until their next major growth spurt which is at puberty.
-Baby's grow quickly in their first year of life and therefore require plenty of energy (kilojoules) and nutrients.
-Children don't grow at a steady rate, but more so in spurts, which means that appetite and hunger can be unpredictable.
- The amounts of food eaten by your baby may be a little different from day to day. This is normal and shouldn't cause any concerns as long as your baby is growing well.
- Please refer to the growth charts at the back of the child and youth health books if concerned about appropriate weight for your child.

You don't have to have your baby weighed on a regular basis unless you are worried or the baby is showing signs of not developing properly. Nurturing your baby should be spontaneous and responsive. Cued in by your baby.

Weight charts and standardised care has been shown over and over to strike fear into women without improving any outcomes.
the first intervention of a healthy pregnant woman is leaving the front door.
