It is important to note that having flat or inverted nipples should not mean you cannot breastfeed.
If a baby is having difficulty with attachment to the breast as a result of the mothers flat or inverted nipples then a nipple shield can be used to aid in attachment. However the nipple shield should not be used long term as this can result in a decrease in milk supply. If using a shield try feeds without it so baby does not decome too dependent. Once baby grows and his/her suction is better then breastfeeding can be sucessful without a shield.
