Fresh Breast Milk
-If breast milk has just been expressed and is in a sealed storage container then it can be kept outside of the fridge for 6-8hours (26C or lower). Although placing milk in the fridge is ideal.
-Breast milk can be stored in the fridge for 3-5 days at the back of the fridge (not in the door) where it is the coldest.
-In the freezer part of fridge it can be stored for 2 weeks
-3 months in a freezer that has a seperate door
-6-12 months in a deep freeze where temp is -18C or lower.
Previously frozen-thawed in fridge but not warmed
-Can be kept at room temp for 4 hours or until next feed.
-Can be stored at back of fridge for 24 hours.
-DO NOT re-freeze.
Thawed outside of fridge in warm water
-Discard after completion of feed if kept at room temp.
-Can be stored at the back of the fridge for 4 hours or until next feed.
-DO NOT re-freeze.
Baby has commenced feeding
-At the completion of feed discard.
